I hated doing homework and assigning homework. I did not grade individual homework assignments as many do, and believe that homework is for practice, but I used this method, but before going on, I was teaching Chemistry, Physics and Algebra, so the students are not middle school.
I assign homework, beginning of class ask if there are any questions. If no questions hand out a quiz with problems from the homework. Only have to do this one or two times before there are questions about the homework. I would rather have a discussion than read several copied papers.

Wow, I can’t believe so few students had their posters ready on time. The only thing I remember, from my middle school and high school years, is teachers giving zeros on assignments handed in late- unless an extension was given.
